Who is currently in charge of Asante Kotoko? That is the one big question to be solved following the reaction of coach David Duncan to a statement from the club’s management asking him to ‘step aside’ on Monday.
The Kumasi-based side are experiencing a rough season debut, and are now at 16th position after losing three games and recording five points from six outings.
In the wake of the team’s 1-0 defeat to Aduana Stars on Sunday, the Porcupine Warriors management released a statement announcing it had asked Duncan to “…Step aside … after the club’s abysmal performance in the ongoing Ghana Premier League where Kotoko lies an unprecedented last position.”
Assistant Michael Osei was appointed as caretaker coach, according to the note.
However, in a radio interview with Atinka FM Total Sports on Monday, Duncan said he was not quitting his post “because there is nothing like step aside in my contract.”
Reports also indicate that Kotoko Board Chairman Paul Adu Gyamfi is unaware and does not endorse the decision to part ways with Duncan.
