Team Youth FC president Wilfred Osei ‘Palmer’ claims Asante Kotoko made the wrong choice in appointing David Duncan to succeed Didi Dramani mid-way last season.
Duncan, 46, joined Kotoko amid grudges from supporters, who argued that the man who once made derogatory comments towards the club while coaching rivals Hearts of Oak shouldn’t be welcomed in Kumasi.
Duncan recorded only one win in six games this term, with the club languishing at the bottom of the 16-club log and was last week asked by the management to step aside.
Now under caretaker coach Michael Osei, the Porcupine Warriors have moved up to ninth position thanks to their matchday seven 3-1 win over Liberty Professionals.
“Duncan was not the right coach for Kotoko, they had it all wrong from the very start,” Osei told Asempa FM.
“The timing of Duncan when he assumed the position at Kotoko was wrong, especially looking at the circumstances on which Kotoko parted ways with former coach Dramani who had won two successive league titles.
“Duncan has never been accepted by Kotoko supporters as one of their own so it is a marriage of suspicion and his loyalty to the club has always been questionable so I think that marriage shouldn’t have happened at all,” he added.
