Head coach of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Mas-ud Didi Dramani expects a repetition of the 1982 African Cup of Nations won by the Black Stars of Ghana with unknown players at this year’s African Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.
According to the current best club coach in Ghana, the myth surrounding the team with respect to players getting injured and head coach Avram Grant naming some new players in the team, reminds him of the squad that represented the nation during the 1982 African Cup of Nations and that feeds him with the feeling that the Black Stars may emerge as eventual winners of the coveted trophy on the continent.
“The injury situation of the team and the challenges the team has gone through reminds me of the squad that represented the nation during the 1982 tournament in Libya which saw the Black Stars emerging as eventual winners of the trophy.
The team is now struggling with injuries and I wouldn’t be surprised if the Black Stars win the AFCON in Equatorial Guinea”, Didi Dramani said.
“Look, we don’t have a very bad team but the attention and comments on the team have compelled the playing body to play under pressure and that nearly cost the team during the qualifiers. I keep on getting the feeling that the Black Stars will repeat what happened in Libya in 1982″, Didi added.
The Black Stars are currently in Spain for a training tour ahead of the 2015 AFCON to be hosted by Equatorial Guinea from January 17 to February 8.
