The Belgian star registered his 20th of the season against Borussia Dortmund to match the previous best held by Zvjezdan Misimovic
Wolfsburg midfielder Kevin de Bruyne has equalled the record for most assists in a single Bundesliga season.
The Belgium international played a fine through-ball to Daniel Caligiuri inside the opening minute against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday to register his 20th assist of the league campaign.
He then looked to have set a new best for the division of 21 just after half-time when Naldo converted from close range following De Bruyne’s corner, but his delivery was not the telling contribution to the goal and therefore did not count.
The previous record of 20 has been held by Zvjezdan Misimovic, who reached that number in Wolfsburg’s title-winning campaign of 2008-09.
The club later took to Twitter to congratulate De Bruyne on the milestone, though they appeared eager to credit the 23-year-old for his second-half corner for Naldo, too.
Former Chelsea midfielder De Bruyne is expected to be one of the most in-demand players this summer, with Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain among the sides linked with a bid.
