Ashanti Gold goalkeeper Fatau Dauda has lamented his side’s elimination from the 2016 Caf Champions League.
The Miners crashed out of the continental flagship club competition following a 3-1 defeat to Algerian side MO Bejaia in the preliminary round second leg encounter at the Unite Maghrebine Stadium on Sunday.
Goals from Hudu Yakubu (own goal), Khadir Sofiane and Hamzaoui Okacha made useless an Emmanuel Osei Carlos consolation, as the North Africans run out 3-2 victors on aggregate, the first leg having ended in a 1-0 triumph for the Miners in Ghana.
“I think it was hard luck, we did everything we could but this didn’t go our way,” Dauda toldPeaceFM.
“We were not lucky. If you watch the game, you will see we played well but thing were not in favour of us.
“We wanted to get very far in the competition. We wanted to raise the flag of Ghana and make an impact this time but things didn’t work out for us.”
The Obuasi-based side will now focus on defending their Ghana Premier League title as they host Berekum Chelsea on Saturday, four days before taking on Asante Kotoko in an outstanding encounter at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi.
