Dante: On a personal level, Guardiola not that great

While accepting that his tactical knowledge is world class, Bonfim Dante criticised the manner in which former Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola treats players at a personal level.

The 32-year-old centre-back, now at Nice, compared the Catalan to the other coaches he has had throughout his career and believes the treatment and relationships differed, overall feeling less appreciated during Guardiola’s years at Bayern.

“There are coaches that are world class in terms of tactics, but on the human side of things aren’t that good,” said Dante to German newspaper Bild. “Pep Guardiola doesn’t talk with the players so you never know what is going on.”

The player did have kinder words for current boss Lucien Favre, however, who he knows from their time together at Borussia Monchengladbach.

“We get along really well and he knows me from the time I spent in the Bundesliga.”
