The California State Athletic Commission have given UFC champion Conor McGregor the green light to become a professional boxer in the US state.
In obtaining the necessary license, the Irishman is now one step closer to trading Mixed Martial Arts for a crack at a new discipline, with a rumoured clash with Floyd Mayweather still highly touted.
As a former double-belt UFC champion, McGregor has openly discussed fighting the 39-year-old American, potentially delivering him 100 million US dollars in prize money.
However, the Mayweather camp have reacted less than enthusiastically to the prospect, citing the fact that McGregor is still under a UFC contract, which they believe rules him out of a boxing match.
