With David Luiz expected to rejoin Chelsea before the end of Wednesday, the Blues have secured the services of another defender in Marcos Alonso.
The Spaniard joins from Fiorentina, with reports indicating the deal will see the Italian side receive 27 million for the full-back.
Having joined La Viola on a free transfer in 2013 and then spending a season on loan at Sunderland, the deal will bring in a huge profit for the Italian side, while Alonso is excited to challenge for titles.
“I’m very happy,” he told Chelsea’s official website. “It’s a step up in my career and I think this is the perfect place for me to continue developing. It’s time for me to win some titles.
‘It was an easy decision for me to make when I heard the club were interested in signing me. My family and close friends know Chelsea is the club I have dreamed about playing for so I’m really excited about the challenge and I’m looking forward to working with my new team-mates.’
Alonso netted three goals in 39 appearances in all competitions last season.
