Chelsea close to deal for Nantes defender Papy Djilobodji

Chelsea are close to signing 27-year-old defender Papy Djilobodji from Nantes, according to reports in the French press.

Djilobodji, a Senegalese international, is out of contract next summer – with the Blues believed to be paying around £3 million for his services.

The tall centre-back has previously been linked with Celtic, Southampton,Newcastle United and Sunderland – reportedly upsetting his current club in his attempts to force a move away from Ligue 1 this summer.

Chelsea have already missed out on John Stones, Aymen Abdennour and Marquinhos over the past few weeks and, with the transfer window set to shut on Tuesday, may see Djilobodji as the best chance they have of getting in the defensive cover Jose Mourinho appears to feel he needs.
