Chelsea are edging ever closer to the capture of Augsburg defender Baba Rahman, who has reportedly passed a medical at Stamford Bridge.
The left-back has been a target of manager Jose Mourinhothroughout the summer, and it appears that the Portuguese boss has finally got his man for a fee in excess of £20 million.
So, what can Baba bring to Stamford Bridge? Well, it’s safe to say his addition won’t fix the many problems in west London.
The Blues are looking a little weak right now—they’re not blessed with a great amount of depth and need more than a full-back to ease their woes.
Besides, will Baba be given the nod ahead of Cesar Azpilicueta? It doesn’t look too likely based on Mourinho’s faith in the Spaniard.
Still, the Ghanaian does give the Blues boss something he doesn’t have in many other areas on the pitch—options.
He certainly has credentials, too, as he’s something of a complete left-back. Baba is a strong tackler yet still has plenty of energy and a forward-thinking philosophy.
In fact, the player himself said that his eye for attacking is his main attribute—via FIFA.com:
“You’ve got to be strong in both defence and attack. You have to be confident enough in your own ability to push forward, but of course you’ve also got to tackle strongly, pass accurately and remain disciplined. Perhaps the key thing about my play is my pace, technique and willingness to attack.”
