Unai Emery has been appointed as the new coach of Paris Saint-Germain, Sports5050 can confirm.
The former Sevilla coach takes over form Laurent Blanc who was sacked some days back, after helping the Ligue 1 giants win three Ligue 1 titles, two Coupe de France, three Coupe de la Ligue and three Trophée des Champions.
Looking at the level of success under Blanc, it comes as a surprise that he part ways with the Ligue 1 outfit.
Especially, when the club President Nasser Al-Khelaifi backed him for success in coming seasons saying, “We are very happy with his results this season, as well as the very attractive football the team has played. We are convinced we will win a lot more trophies together.”
However, football is full of uncertainties and the long-awaited arrival of Unai Emery has now been confirmed.
Unai Emery enjoyed a successful spell at Sevilla, winning the past three Europa Leagues with the club.
He has signed a two-year deal with the Ligue 1 champions, Paris Saint-Germain and will take over from Laurent Blanc in the Parc des Princes dugout.
“It is an honour for me to accept the challenge of coaching PSG next season,” the Basque said on his website, while he also tweeted a picture of himself holding the club’s shirt.”
His move to the French capital had stalled while he and his lawyers tied up loose ends at Sevilla, where he terminated his contract one season early.
Having finalised the 44-year-old’s switch, the Parisian club were able to announce his arrival, while Sevilla confirmed Jorge Sampaoli as his replacement at the Estadio Sanchez Pizjuan.
