Black Stars bonuses slashed by 50% – Sports Minister

    Finally, the news that Ghanaians want to hear, the Black Stars bonus packaged has been slashed by 50% from $10,000 to $5,000 across board after a meeting with government.

    The Sports Minister designate, Hon. Isaac Asiamah confirmed this new arrangement at a press conference in Gabon, indicating that the new agreement was concluded in consensus with the management and the players with no ill will.

    “We are going to have a stake holders meeting to discuss payments for all national teams but in the interim we have held a meeting with the players of the national team and they have agreed to a 50% slash in their bonuses,” he said.

    “They have understood the situation we are in and also understand that the fans and the general public have spoken. The players understand this.”

    Contrary to reports that the Black Stars will now earn $5000 per win at the tournament, the GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi at the press conference made it clear that the bonuses at the group stage is structured as a qualification bonus. In others words, the Black Stars will receive $15,000 for progressing from the group stage irrespective of how many matches they won.

    A win at the quarter-final will also be $5,000 , while $6000 for the semifinal and $7500 for the final.

    Hon. Asiamah also revealed that a special package will be announced by His Excellency the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo should the team win the AFCON.
