Barca to sue Santos over Gabigol transfer – reports

Barcelona will reportedly open legal proceedings against Brazilian outfit Santos after they sold Brazilian wonderkid Gabriel Barbosa to Inter Milan.

The 20-year-old Brazil international joined the Serie A side ahead of the transfer deadline in midweek, with Inter forking out a reported fee of £20 million to sign the striker. This after Juventus has expressed an interest in acquiring the player’s services.

However, the Blaugrana insist they are owed financial compensation as they had included a clause in Neymar’s deal that would afford the La Liga giants the opportunity to match any transfer bid lodged for the player.

Barca claim they were not informed of Inter’s bid in a timely manner, effectively scuppering their chances of challenging Inter for his signature.

As such, Barcelona are now said to seeking compensation to the tune of £2.6 million, according to ESPN.

What makes the Spanish club’s case even stronger is the fact that Santos president Modesto Roma had earlier admitted that Juventus would first have to consult Barcelona before attempting to sign ‘Gabigol’.

“We sent a letter to Wagner [Ribeiro, Gabigol’s agent], Valdemir and Lindalva [his parents] with the terms,” Roma told Globoesporte.

“If they think it’s interesting, then we’ll go to the next steps, including consulting Barcelona.”
