Avram Grant!! Not Worth A Manager

    By Kofi Ampon Gyasi

In a few weeks’ time Avram Grant the former Chelsea boss will be appointed the Blackstars manager if he is able to agree on a reasonable fee with Ghana football association. But one big question is, is he worth the job?

Many soccer fans will be swayed by what the Israeli achieved at Chelsea in 2007/2008 as he led them to the champions league final in Moscow…but this might not just be enough to lead the stars to the 2015 AFCON and the 2018 world cup campaign.

He is never that type of manager people think he is. Grant has a lot of tactical floors and unable to change games. His spells at Chelsea and west ham is a testimony to that and in terms of managerial skills he is zero (0). His boredomness on the touchline tells he is never a football manger but only a technical Director as he was in Portsmouth. The Ghana football association might be convinced again as a result of the success he had in Israel by winning the Israeli league with Maccabee Haifa in the 2001-2002 season ,but i beg to differ as the Israeli league would have no place in the best 50 football leagues in the world. So this tells us clearly of the standard of competition he faced in his homeland.

Less I forget leading Chelsea to the champions league final in Moscow wasn’t by his might but by a brainy tactician called Henk Ten Cates who was his assistant and to the connoisseurs of the Game Avram Grant has never held a UEFA licence A OR B qualification as a manager and whether he holds it now is something the Ghana FA has to explain to all Ghanaians and as to which criteria was used to appoint him. The football world will testify to the fact that his special relationship with the Chelsea owner Roman Abramovic was the key to his appointment as the Chelsea manager then but not based on his technical know-how.

The Blackstars will fall from Grace to Grass when Grant is officially given the job. A struggling, sluggish and a Blackstars team devoid of confidence will be too much a weight for the unqualified Grant. Now his task will be harder looking at the teams defeat in Kampala in the hands of the cranes of Uganda, and even if the stars are able to qualify for the Afcon tournament can Avram Grant be the first white coach in Ghana to lead the stars to annex the trophy in Equatorial Guinea????
