Welbeck Abra-Appiah, chairman of the Premier League Board (PLB) has lambasted Black Stars trainer, Avram Grant over what he says is the Israeli trainer’s laziness towards scouting local talents.
Abra-Appiah who has persistently advocated his belief that talents abound in avalanches in the Ghana Premier League and who are more than capable of playing for the senior national team, has again brought up the debate following a no-show by any local based player in the Black Stars side that drew 1-1 with Canada in a friendly in the US last week.
Mr. Abra-Appiah insists he is still at a loss why Coach Grant and his technical team cannot identify some players from the local league to at least test them in such a friendly.
“I find it difficult to agree with those who think our local based players are not qualified to be playing for the Blacks Stars,” an obviously puzzled Abra-Appiah told Starr FM.
“If you had your assistant in charge of the CHAN team and there is a friendly in Washington what prevents you from adding some local players? This is because at least five or six players in the team will boost their morale and confidence for future call ups than still inviting the known faces,” the PLB boss continued.
He added: “Our Coach is a lazy man, he shouldn’t be talking like that. He even doesn’t watch matches and can’t identity talents.”
