Inter Allies midfielder Evans Mensah has been handed his debut call-up to Ghana team ahead of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Mozambique.
The 19-year-old was picked by head coach Avram Grant ahead of Berekum Chelsea skipper Sadick Adams to replace injured David Accam, who suffered a knee sprain last week while training with his club Chicago Fire ahead of a Major League Soccer game with Columbus Crew.
Mensah has been awarded three Man of the Match awards (vs Aduana, Dreams and Hearts) in the Ghana Premier League.
“Inter Allies midfielder Evans Mensah gets late call-up to the Ghana squad for Afcon qualifier against Mozambique,” a GFA statement read.
The Right to Dream Academy graduate couldn’t hide his joy after being notified officially with the news. However, he believes that his hard work did the trick.
“I’m really happy with the opportunity to train and play with the best players in the country. Thanks to the coach, technical team, my teammates and everyone who supported me in one way or the other to achieve this feat,” Mensah told Goal.
“I’ll do my best to continue to impress the technical team and hopefully all will be well,” he added.
Ghana will lock horns with Mozambique on Thursday at the Accra Sports Stadium before playing the return fixture four days later in Maputo.
