Augsburg chairman Jonas Hoffman has told Chelsea the club do not need the millions they would make from selling Baba Rahman.
The Ghanaian left-back has reportedly been targeted as the Premier League title-holders’ top choice to replace Filipe Luis in their squad, with the Brazilian set to return to Atletico Madrid.
Chelsea are not the only club alleged to have interest in the 21-year-old, whose Bundesliga performances are thought to have attracted Juventus, Manchester City and Roma.
Hoffman, however, thinks rumours of an €18 million move away from the WWK Arena are premature as Augsburg are not financially unstable and enjoy having the player in their ranks.
“We do not need the Baba millions,” he told Bild. “We have a good, solid team here.
“I am very optimistic that Baba will continue his great performances with us. He’s made a very good impression at our recent training camp.
“Why keep Baba? I am an Augsburg fan. To me, it’s more important that I spend the evening watching Augsburg win with a beer in my hand than when we have more money in the bank account.
“There’s no need to even talk about an offer under €20m, as I’ve previously stated.”
Baba is contracted until June 30, 2019, and has been with the Bavarian side since signing from Greuther Furth 12 months ago.
