Ashanti Gold midfielder Emmanuel Osei Baffuor says his team are on track to make a good impression in the 2016 Caf Champions League.
Led by coach Bashir Hayford, the Obuasi-based side dethroned Asante Kotoko to snatch the 2014-15 Ghana Premier League title last September, claiming the sole ticket for the continental championship. The league victory was the club’s fourth title in total, and the first in 19 years.
“The team is made up of up-and-coming players and we are willing to build our future with a very good performance in the Caf Champions League,” Baffuor was quoted as saying by theSportsCrusader.
“We are currently training towards that at the moment. The technical bench has been very good to us as a team. We love each other as a family and that helps us to enjoy our football the more.
“They interact with us a lot and this has really helped us develop as a team. The most important thing about the technical team is their attitude towards their work, which I believe is a plus to the team.”
Ashgold have been handed a tricky first opponent, Algerian side MO Bejaia, in the preliminary round of continental competition.
The first leg is expected to come off between February 12 and 14 in Ghana, with the return encounter set for a fortnight later in Algeria.
