Ashgold threaten to pull out of Otumfuo Cup

Ashanti Gold have threatened to boycott the annual Otumfuo challenge Cup against Kumasi Asante Kotoko over comments by a sports analyst on U-TV that they are not the worthy champions.

The Miners won the 2014-15 Ghana Premier League with 52 points to win their first league title in 19 years.

However, some soccer pundits have alleged that the Firs Capital Plus Premier League heading to the final 5 games wasn’t competitive adding that some of those matches were predetermined by the clubs.

This season’s Otumfuo Cup which comes off on Sunday between Ashgold and Kotoko is being organized by U-TV and unfortunately on their sports show a sports analyst made claims that Ashgold are not the worthy champions of the league.

And the management of Ashgold who are not happy with this claim, especially on a platform provided by an organiser of the competition have threatened not to honour the game.

“It is high time people watched their comments on radio and on TV. It is surprising that U-TV who are one of the organisers of the Otumfuo Cup will allow somebody to allege that Ashgold are not the worthy champions of the league on their platform.

“I am breaking our players from camp; we (Ashgold) will not honour the Otumfuo Cup. They should go for the true champions to come and play,” Kudjoe Fianoo, the CEO of Ashgold fc told Hot FM.
