Ghana Premier League champions Ashanti Gold are concluding plans to carry out refurbishment works at their home ground, Len Clay Stadium, ahead an inspection team from the Confederation of African Football (Caf) against the upcoming Champions league competition.
The Miners CEO Kudjo Fianoo is upbeat that the Ubuasi-based 20,000-seater multi-use facility will meet the required standard for the tournament after renovation.
“We are doing our best to get Len Clay ready to host our home matches. It would be a great disservice to the people of Obuasi if we have to move our matches from Obuasi to Kumasi, which happens to be the alternative,” Fianoo told Starr Sports.
However, the Ghana FA inspection team has instructed Ashgold to give the stadium’s media centre a facelift as soon as possible.
Ashgold are the sole Ghanaian representatives in the Caf Champions League and have approved a $1 million budget for preparations, according to team’s Board.
