Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan will not be joining Al Ahly as reported by various sources, Sports5050 can confirm.
Reports out of Egypt on Monday indicated that Ahly had offered a loan deal to Gyan and were awaiting a response.
Gyan is currently contracted to Chinese Super League side Shanghai SIPG but seems to have fallen out of favour after the signing of Brazilian star Hulk.
“We are aware of the interest but Asamoah Gyan is not interested at the moment. He has a host of offers from Europe and the Gulf region and will decide at the right time,” a source close to the player told Pulse Sports.
The Black Stars captain moved to China from Arabian Gulf League club Al Ain and impressed in the first season. A host of injuries have however limited Gyan’s chances at Shanghai SIPG recently.
The Chinese Super League club recently boosted their firepower upfront with former Zenit St Petersburg player Hulk. With the wages of the two players high up the paying grade, Gyan is expected to leave the club.
Asamoah Gyan started with Liberty Professionals in Ghana before joining Udinese in the Italian Serie A. The 30-year-old has also played for English Premier League team Sunderland and is the highest scoring African at a FIFA World Cup tournament.
