Former Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah is the latest to speak on the issue of player monitoring for national call-ups.
The topic has gained prominence in the local circles in recent times due to Black Stars coach Avram Grant’s continuous reference to the fact that his persistent absence from the country gives him the opportunity to effectively monitor Ghanaian players abroad.
“There are so many technologies coming up,” Appiah told StarrFM on the topic.
“You can sit [here in Ghana] and watch the game [a player] has played and decide whether he’s worth it [monitoring], then you talk to the player or his manager.
“In that aspect, after watching him, you put his name down. So by the time you make up your mind of going to Europe, you [already] know the player in mind.
“You are just going to watch them physically, talk to them and speak to their managers on the behavior of the players.
“So that can actually help you monitor those out there and those down here.”
Grant has received a lot of stick for his insistence on staying abroad due to the aforementioned.
The Israeli only touched down in the country two weeks back, two clear months after his scheduled return from holidays.
