Appiah lauds Hearts’ performance in Ghana PL

Former Ghana captain Stephen Appiah says he is happy with the current performance of his boyhood club Hearts of Oak in the Ghana Premier League under Japanese manager Kenichi Yatsuhashi.

The Phobians have staged an inspiring start to the campaign, currently second on the log with 18 points after nine games.

“I was very happy to see their Japanese coach [Kenichi Yatsuhashi] on the bench during their 2-1 victory against Ashanti Gold on Sunday,” Appiah told Citi FM.

“They have done well. In fact, I have watched all their home games this campaign and I will continue to watch the games whenever I have the opportunity.

“On a personal note, I am very happy that they have had a strong start to the season. Clearly, they want to win the league but it is still a long way to go [21 matches more],” he added.

Hearts halted their four-game winless drought last weekend after overcoming title holders Ashanti Gold 2-1 in away fixture. They welcome fierce rivals Asante Kotoko to the Accra Sports Stadium on May 2.
