Angelique Kerber made it four WTA Tour titles this year, once again getting the better of Karolina Pliskova in a final to win the Bank of the West Classic.
The German left-hander capitalised on an indifferent performance by Pliskova to win 6-3 5-7 6-4 on Sunday.
Kerber now has seven career titles ” including four in 2015 ” as she made it back-to-back victories in finals against Pliskova, having beaten the Czech in Birmingham in June.
Pliskova mixed 52 winners with just as many unforced errors, while Kerber (27 winners, 14 unforced errors) was more consistent.
Kerber held a 3-9 win-loss record in finals before four triumphs without defeat this year, while Pliskova is now 4-7.
The hard-hitting 23-year-old was left to rue 21 unforced errors in the first set as Kerber broke three times to take it 6-3.
There were nine breaks of serve in 12 games in the second set, but Pliskova managed to hold when serving for the set at 6-5.
That theme continued in the third set as Kerber twice came from a break down, before she broke in the 10th game to win the title.
