Aguero to sign Manchester City contract extension

Reports reaching Sports5050 indicate that Sergio Aguero is ready to sign a contract extension that will keep him at Manchester City until 2020.

Aguero only signed a five-year deal in August 2014, which was designed to keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2019.

The Argentina striker claimed at the end of last year that he will stay in Manchester until the end of his deal and then return to his boyhood club, Independiente.

But he has been in talks with City officials for the past month and is close to agreeing a one-year extension on top of his existing agreement. Official confirmation is expected in the coming weeks.

With Pep Guardiola’s arrival announced at the start of the week, following a growing sense behind the scenes that City had got their man, Aguero is more convinced than ever that his best days will come at the Etihad.

Guardiola is expected to overhaul the playing squad this summer, with as many as seven or eight first-teamers in danger of being shown the door.

Yaya Toure’s agent has laid the groundwork for the Ivorian’s exit, although it is understood the player himself is far less keen on a move.

Full-backs Aleksandar Kolarov and Pablo Zabaleta are both keen to stay and work with Guardiola, though the Catalan could well decide to dispense with the former, as well as a number of other players that have made significant contributions in recent years.

Aguero, though, will continue to be a key member of the City squad as the club enters a new era, and will soon put pen to paper to extend his stay.
