The ball that is set to ripple nets in the 2016/17 Champions League takes its inspiration from the footballing philosophies of some of the world’s best players, whose handwritten messages adorn its surface.
Adidas have unveiled the official centrepiece, set to be used in the group stages until December 7, in advance of the Champions League draw which takes place later today in Monaco.
The new ball features brief comments written by high-profile Adidas-sponsored players.
Welsh speed merchant Gareth Bale’s message aptly reads ‘be faster than a speeding bullet’, while Toni Kroos opted for ‘controlling the game is everything’. James Rodriguez’s message reads ‘La creatividad gana’, which translates to ‘Creativity wins’.
Inspirational messages aside, the ball features white panels surrounded by green stars. The stars are sheathed in a textured outer coating that is designed to offer optimal adhesion in different pitch conditions.
In addition to unveiling the official Champions League match ball, Adidas also showed off the ball set to be used in the 2016/17 UEFA Europa League.
