Ghana have received bad news on Monday night as one of their leading strikers – Abdul Majeed Waris, has suffered an injury setback while playing for Trabzonspor in Turkey.
It is unclear whether the former Sparta Moscow striker would be able to play in the tournament for the West African giants who are in Group C with South Africa, Algeria and Senegal.
Waris, who had bagged four goals for Ghana in his recent games, had come off the bench as a 27th minute replacement for a striker who got injured but also had to be helped off the pitch after he picked an injury 12 minutes into the second-half.
Trabzonspor were getting involved in a Turkish Sup Lig game and needed the Ghanaian forward who had yet to score a league goal since his arrival in the summer but the game turned sour for them as visiting Eski?ehirspor thought them a bitter lessons by hammering them 4-1.
Scans are expected to be performed on the extent of Waris’ injury and it would then be clear whether he could join Ghana’s squad for the 2015 AFCON which is slated for Equatorial Guinea on January 17.
